The true meaning of “Games” is exact “competition”, but for “Olympic Games”, we have three values: Excellence, Friendship and Respect. In order to teach youths more about these three values, Singapore Youth Olympic Games will be not only one competition, but also lots of galore events.

There are two groups of events, “Pre-Games” and “During the Games”, now I will introduce them to you respectively.

Pre-Games

• Friends@YOG: Learn more about the over 190 countries taking part in the Youth Olympic Games and make friends with the world.
• Olympic Education Programme for Schools: Find out about the Olympic Movement and Youth Olympic Games.
• Olympic Youth Camp: Youths from Singapore and various NOCs get together to build friendships and learn about Olypism.
• International Sports Conference: A four-day “Youth in Physical Education & Sport” conference for educators, academics and young people.
• Constituency Sports Week: Know more about sports. Better still, take up a new sport!
• National Family Celebrations: An annual campaign that promotes family bonding and increase awareness of Singapore 2010 through sports activities.
• Arts and Culture: A series of exciting festivals, performances and activities celebrating young talents.

During the Games

• Athletes Education Programme: Learn through talks, dialogues, workshops, activity-based sessions, adventure, community-involvement projects and world-culture booths.
• Spectator Programme: A fun programme of talks, games and interactive displays for you to participate in.
• Art and Culture: Athletes, spectators and the public get to celebrate and be inspired by the spirit of Olympism through arts and cultural activities brought to them at the selected competition venues, the Youth Olympic Village, and throughout the city.
• Singapore 2010 Websites: Fun and interactive digital media platforms.

With all these interesting activities and events, Singapore Youth Olympic Games will not only be competitions, but also be a big International project for education.
